Why kites fly on Sankrant!?!

The first festival of the calendar year 2020 is here!!

So, here is a question that I asked my mumma and the answer to which amazed me!! On to the early morning walks, which were more of a reason to talk about life to Mom I asked her… Maa, why do we fly kites on this festival and what is the significance? Like we could have even thought of some other ways to celebrate the festival as we traditionally do! Either just making sweet, taking a bath early morning, going to a temple and then having sweet in the dish!!

And then, we just took a seat on the bench where the senior citizens had made their early morning news reporting spot, what she answered was like, it made me realize that our ancestors who had the concept of these festivals were actually genius. Their thought process was much far sighted then ours and sorted enough to have good reasons for everything!! They thought better than the best computerised planners in the generation where even simple machines were not a routine!

She continued saying as I was making myself comfortable on the bench!! Makar Sankranti marks the end of winter season and start of the spring season! The sun starts moving and the chilly mornings now change to warmer ones!! Winters are seasons where we usually have an unhealthy lifestyle, most of the times we tend getting up late because of cold floor that gets us goose bumps to walk upon and now that the festival marks end of the freezing mornings, flying kites not only gets the sky go colourful and kids cheerful it also gives us an good exposure to the morning sunlight which is rich source of Vitamin D making our bones stronger! (and I was like, now I get the reason as to why our brains are so much in demand!! Because we think way ahead and way smart!! Though the festival is not only celebrated in India!!) The next answer was why sesame sweets (til papdi) is that sesame seeds have a property which helps the body keeping warm and also provides enough oil to moisture the skin which has been dry due to the chills of winter!!

So, this Sankranti celebrate the festival knowing the reason behind every small thing you do!! And let your friends and kids know why and how of everything!!

Take Sweet and Talk Sweet – HAPPY SANKRANTI TO YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES

You are reflection of your surroundings!

You’re just an imitation of what is around you, its just that you don’t imitate one person; you take bits and pieces of hundred people and make yourself

I was small when my mum always had a concern of all the tiny heads which would flock in our house to play, laugh, complete homework and enjoy the best days of life. It wasn’t the mess we created in and around that dreaded her, it was the children coming home, their upbringing and their culture in which they were brought which was her concern! She was very keen on choosing the right people as friends and I always had a grudge as to its okay whosoever they are! I just play with them and will not be influenced with any of their habits! But then entering the house without a brief introduction of my friends was next to impossible!

Now when I started analysing things myself and knowing the psychology behind her worried eyes, I totally agree to her! You are known by the company you keep! Not because it’s a saying! But because your brain constantly snaps images of the attitudes – be it good or bad of all the people you surround with. These small snaps taken slowly and steadily start throwing impression on our personality! And to be checked out in practise – take an example if your boss is in a grumpy mood and you happen to be the target point as soon as you have taken your seat early morning. You are thrashed and abused in hard words in front of a few colleagues, later you take the same grumpy vibes to the cafeteria which is simply carried ahead to your kids waiting back home. So, you see, you gradually become the way you receive vibes! You read a positive quote and you are all filled with motivation. Atleast for the next few days you work with a new energy and focus!

So, it’s simple – I vibe, your vibe… WE VIBE. Be surrounded with positive people, the optimistic ones, those which send you a positive energy! Those who allow you to be a little better than your best version

Ira Ki Kahaniya!

Principles in life are very important! They help you survive when you are hit hard by tough situations; they help you make right decisions and in setting your priorities in life, especially in this fast-changing world which is full of uncertainties. Ira ki Kahaniyan is the author’s attempt to share his life’s principles in the form of poetry. Since the book is aimed at educating children, the author reinforces the importance of hard work, relationships, friendship, good health, living in the moment, education, equality, power of dreams, importance of karma, festivals, patriotism, environment and gratitude through a wise little girl, Ira.

One more reason why I am including this book in my blogs is that the author has decided to share all its proceeds (from book sale) with CRY (Child relief and You). To aid its sales, I want this to reach out to schools, libraries, children’s centers catering to diverse segments of children in addition to your own circle of friends and family. This fun-filled unique book of wisdom, will help storytelling by teachers, enhance reading competency in children and make all involved fall in love with ideas and words!

The book is already published and is on amazon

Also Bulk bookings are possible

Bewafaa

Bappa Morya….!!!

One of the most awaited festival of entire Maharashtra – Ganesh Chaturthi!!!

Where Lord Ganesha is welcomed with great respect, joy and love to everyone’s home!! Staying with us for 10 days, he makes the atmosphere vibrate in energy – all to a different level!!

If Mumbai is known for the huge idols touching the sky from where the almighty showers his lovely blessings!!! We Punekars – rather proud Punekar welcome Bappa in grandeur of the traditional Dhol-Tasha, lezim the colorful rangolis and even the air sings along with us – Ganpati Bappa Morya Mangal Murthi Morya!!!

Today let us just get briefed that why and how is Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrated?

The first section of the Mahabharata states that it was Ganesha who wrote down the text to Vyasa’s dictation. Ganesha is said to have agreed to write it only if Vyasa never paused in his recitation. Vyasa agrees on condition that Ganesha takes the time to understand what was said before writing it down.

So, Ganesha began to write Mahabharata along with Ved Vyasa. They wrote Mahabharata in 10 days without taking a pause. They didn’t eat/drink anything during these 10 days. Due to this, Ganesha was dehydrated.

So, a layer of clay(mitti) was applied all over his body. Then he was asked to get in river and cool down.(Something similar to Ganesh Visarjan)

And this is why we celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi and immerse Ganeshji in water.

How is it celebrated?

Lord Ganesha – believed to be the remover of obstacles (Vighnaharta), and the god of intellect and wisdom (Buddhi Devta).

Worshipped by nearly all castes and all around the globe – Japan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh etc. Ganesha being everyone’s favorite be it the Bollywood celebrities or the common Man – I am sure everyone in our childhood must have gone crazy for the way the decorations will be done, who will get Bappa home, who will be the one performing the first aarti etc. The grand celebration starts with the installation of Ganesh idols in colorfully decorated temporary made structures – one which is made at our homes – where creativity just flows at peak – Bappa sitting on mountain type structure, at times on bed of flowers etc.  Followed by the rituals – Pranapratishhtha – the process of infusing the deity into a murti or idol, Shhodashopachara – 16 forms of paying tribute to Ganesha,

At the time of the ritual coconut, jaggery, modaks, durva i.e. blades of grass and hibiscus flowers (His favorite flowers was what mom always told me from childhood) are offered and throughout the ceremonial occasion several hymns echoes down the mind of devotees bringing in a divine peace.

During the 10 days – if in case you have ever been part of the competitions that are held in societies, you will surely recall all those fancy dress where one becomes doctor, the other Bhaji wali and its all fun and enjoyment. 10 days just fly off in the air of happiness!!

On the last day, immersion of the statues in the ocean, or other bodies of water, and their subsequent destruction serves as a reminder of this belief. (These are traditionally known as Uttarpuja – Puja after which the idol could be shifted after it’s infusion, Ganpati Visarjan – immersion of the Idol in the river.)

Lastly. I would like to make an appeal – the tradition of immersing Bappa in river bodies was not a harm as the idols made then were of clay, mud and colurs were all natural and hence were no harm to the water animals! But in todays times the idols are all made of non-degradable material which harms the water diversity and endangers their living. Start a change from yourself immerse your “Ladka Bappa” in the artificial pools created by the local authorities.

(I am really proud that even though I was brought up in a traditional family where traditions are strictly followed as they were, on understanding the need to change our thoughts, we have been practicing Ganesh Visarjan in a self-made water tank sort of structure from past 3 years and will be continuing the same.)

Are You Emotionally Stable?

Stability – we run for financial stability, we run for stable house, stable family life…stable this stable that!!! But what about emotional stability, do we ever concentrate on that, rather do we even take a pause to think about that???

What is emotional Stability?

It simply means that you are synchronizing your thoughts with your actions in such a way that they contribute to the betterment of your soul!!! It means developing such lifestyle where there is harmony in what you do and what you speak!

How can you be emotionally stable?

  1. Learn to speak what you think?

It is better to speak right in front then to sit and back bite! Back biting helps no one, not the person about whom you speak neither one self nor the ones to whom you recite the entire conversation. Say for example – There is a person at your workplace whom you are not comfortable with but somehow you cannot express that to the respective person, you sit and blab ill things about that person during your lunch time outcome of which is you spread negativity everywhere, harming your own mental health!

  1. Either change the things you cannot accept or accept the things you cannot change:

There are only two options either you accepting the situation or you changing the situation, when you try sticking in middle is the time when you create pain for your own self! You get disturbed and spread the same vibrations of imbalance everywhere you go!

  1. Be choosy!

By saying be choosy, I mean to say evaluate all your choices in every possible way! Be selective in the friend circle you sit, the attire you wear, the places you visit, the words you use each and every small thing counts when it comes to sum up things about you as a person! Learn to choose things you want to do and things you want to avoid.

  1. Say no to negativity!

Keep yourself surrounded with positive people who have big dreams and are ambitious. Keep yourself into positive actions. In case situations do not allow you to have a positive outlook, try being neutral. Stop cribbing and start acting to solve problems. Things happen the way you think about them. If you have positive attitude of completing a task it will be done and vice-a-versa.

  1. Master your emotions

Cry when you feel like crying, not when people make you cry. It depends upon you when to react and how much to react. Not everything needs to be responded, few things can be ignored right away!

If you achieve success here, then no hurdles are too high for you. A healthy mind generates more output then a clever brain!

amazing balance blur boulder
It isn’t the stress that makes us fall, It is the way to respond to that stress that makes us fall!! and that is when emotional Stability comes into light!!!

Smile and Spread smiles!!!

Time – Best Teacher

Teacher’s day,

Well, today scrolling down on my feed page, I just came across a more interesting definition of “Teacher”  -and that was time!! Giving it thought actually dragged me to my laptop and blog something for the day!!

Thoughts just gushed after reading that line which simply read as “Happy Teachers Day” – Time

There were memories which took me back to childhood, when time taught me to get up by myself every time I fell running on that playground!

Then came the first ever time that I left dad’s little finger and had to face the world all by myself.

That first time I raised my voice against the injustice I saw in bus – Time taught me to be outspoken!

Then were the college days, when time taught me that nothing comes served in your plate, to get things one needs to walk out, turn and face some tussles, and there you get what you worked for!

Then I entered Chartered Accountancy and here Time finally became the ultimate teacher (May-November games had its own way to teach me struggle and work hard consistently)

Time taught me that wait and watch is only a myth – It is all about do and deserve!!

Time taught me that you can’t get aside by working hard for a day – you need to be consistent to give in your 100% and then expect that your result “CAN” be positive!

During articleship – time taught me to be patient enough to hear more and speak less! To learn more and preach less! To be a silent observer and reply only when asked!

Time taught me that you never get free time! Your priorities decide when you are free!!

Time taught me that once gone it never comes back!! Live each moment to its fullest, enjoy every minute as it passes by, because it slips off your hand in a way that just undone!! There is no Control+Z option available so simply create memories – good memories and Control+S!!!

Happy Teacher’s Day – To a common teacher for each and every person, of each and every age group!!!
